Today is the 251st day of the year.
There Was This Man
A Man Like No Other
He was kaleidoscopic in his world view.
His middle initial was I – but that was all it was – a letter with no name . . .
He often wondered what it might stand for . . .
He finally decided it meant Incomprehensibility!
He told people his middle name — and they started calling him “Incoming” – which has 8 letters. And they wondered what would come of him . . . He was like the weather in New England – you never could be sure what was coming . . .
The word INCOMPREHENSIBILITY has 8 syllables – and he thought 8 was his number – so many things in his life came up 8 – even his zodiac sign Scorpio was in the 8th house – although he didn’t know what that meant since he wasn’t into astrology much.
His dad was born in the 8th month.
His mom departed in that same month – August – and she was 88 in 2018. And she was 18 when she married his dad – in 1948 – on June 19th – Freedom Day.
And he was born at 8:23 AM – in November – which has 8 letters.
And he lived in a house in the backyard — on Sweet Ave.
And he counted the houses from the corner of Cass Avenue to his family’s house – 8.
And then, he counted the houses from Elm Street to his – 8 again.
And when he was 56 [7 x 8 = 56] he moved into a huge apartment building in Woonsocket – in 2008.
And he was given an apartment on the 8th floor.
And he started first grade in 1958.
And he graduated from that school in the 8th grade – the 9th grade had been deleted just two years before.
And in 1978 he got born again as a Christian.
And the first time he did “it” was in 1980 – when he was 28.
And he noticed if you lay an 8 down on its side — like it’s bed time – the 8 becomes like the symbol for eternity . . . resting peacefully forever . . . with no beginning and no end – like the Infinity of Space . . . of Outer Space . . .
And then he thought of Star Trek [which also has 8 letters] and its introduction about “Space . . . the Final Frontier”
That wasn’t to be his journey though.
He didn’t see life as being in outer space.
The darkness out there did not attract him.
He found meaning in The Holy Scriptures.
“Then what if you were to see the Son of Man ascending to where he was before? It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.” -Jesus [John 6: 62, 63. ESV Study Bible.
“My words are spirit and they are life,” Jesus said.

So, he preferred staying home – on planet earth — and reading about God and His Word.
He found more hope in what God said than in going out into Space seeking new life in the blackness and vastness of outer space; and traveling trillions of miles from Earth [which is abundant with life] to find nothing out there but uninhabitable planets and countless suns burning too hot to even come close to them because of their heat and unapproachable light.
Those who don’t believe in True God are led astray [astral and astray are related words] to seek after many things they can’t possess and can’t reach – like Adam and Eve who were living in the garden of Eden in perfect peace and ease – until they disobeyed God’s Word and reached for the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil — and lost their innocence and found shame and guilt — and were banished by God for their error – to go out and struggle where it was difficult and miserable – where we all are today – and it’s only getting more miserable – as the secular [ungodly] world becomes more and more wicked in its unbelief and lawlessness.
“And the Lord said, ‘Hear what the unrighteous judge says. And will not God give justice to his elect, who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long over them? I tell you, he will give justice to them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?” -Jesus. [Luke 18: 6-8. ESV Study Bible].

This morning of Thursday September 7, 2023 I wondered about the 8th book of the Bible. It is Ruth. That name means “female companion” according to the Open Bible’s Biblical Cyclopedic Index. I was looking for the 8th chapter and the 8th verse of that chapter; but found that Ruth has only 4 chapters. The 8th verse of chapter one says: “But Naomi said to her two daughters-in-law, ‘Go, return each of you to her mother’s house. May the LORD deal kindly with you, as you have dealt with the dead and with me.’”
Ruth was one of Naomi’s daughters-in-law. And Ruth replied to her mother-in-law with words that have been quoted in marriage ceremonies they are so heart-touching to many. In verse 16 of chapter one it is written: “But Ruth said, ‘Do not urge me to leave you or to return from following you. For where you go I will go, and where you lodge I will lodge. Your people shall be my people, and your God my God. Where you die I will die, and there will I be buried. May the LORD do so to me and more also if anything but death parts me from you.’ And when Naomi saw that she was determined to go with her, she said no more.” -Ruth 1:16-18. ESV Study Bible.

This life we are living on earth at this time in the history of Creation seems to be only a preliminary stage. It is not the Eternal State that is coming at the regeneration of all things. So, Christians are waiting for “the appearing” that is, the second coming of Christ. We are not to take the things of the world that are temporary too seriously. Instead, we are to take God’s Word seriously. We are to believe the gospel of Christ. As Jesus said at the beginning of His ministry – as recorded for us in the gospel:
“Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God, and saying, ‘The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.’” -Mark 1:14, 15. ESV Study Bible.
“Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world – the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions – is not from the Father but is from the world. When the new heavens and the new earth appear – and we who are faithfully waiting for the appearing of Christ Jesus our Lord and Savior – then we who believe and the whole creation will become gloriously regenerated unto eternal Life.
