Dearest Felicia

I’ve been thinking about you this evening while in the pantry making a little pasta and sweet potato and sardines supper.

And was just wondering if your family had a nickname for you when you were little ?

Maybe they called you Licia or Philly ?

I don’t know . . .

Just wondering . . .

I just wonder about you because I love you.

And just love you because you’re so pretty that my heart yearns for you . . .

So there you are . . . in my heart and being yearned for . . .

When I was going to Blackstone Valley Baptist Church, the pastor’s daughter, Michelle, was called Shelly.

And when I was going to NRICMHC – Northern Rhode Island Community Mental Health Center – someone there named Patricia was called Tricia.

And when I was very young, my Uncle Milton called me Marky Pokey and Marco Polo – only once in a while – not usually. I was so young I had no idea that Marco Polo was a real person from hundreds of years ago who was famous for his worldwide travels with his own Dad and Uncle; and for bringing spices back to Europe from the Far East. And then, a new cereal began being advertised on TV called Maypo – and they had a cartoon character and his Uncle in the commercials. And the boy’s name was Marky Maypo.

Maybe someday, Felicia, they’ll come out with a new cornflakes cereal made with golden flakes of corn. And maybe they’ll make a famous commercial for that cereal on TV – with a pretty little girl named Felicia and her sister – Felicia Golden Hair. What would be a nice name for her sister, I wonder . . .

What about Erica ?

Since, in the name America, there is an Erica . . .
