Two People at a Coffee Shop on Sunday December 22nd, 2024
Having tea and conversation while sitting at a table facing each other.
It went like this:
April notices August’s hand tremor as he lifts his tea cup. “August, I can’t help but notice your hand shaking when you lift the cup; but when your hand is at rest, it’s steady.”
August: “I have a benign intentional tremor, according to the doctor.”
April: “How did you get that?”
August: “I don’t know if it’s hereditary or a permanent side effect from psychiatric medications.”
April: “You’ve been on medications like that?”
August: “I was on them for many years; but not anymore.”
April: “What happened?”
August: “I stopped going to the mental health center about 11 years ago.”
April: “Why did you stop going?”
August: “It used to be nice there; but then it gradually changed in many ways. I had to stop taking the prescriptions because of not having a prescriber anymore. And then I began having intestinal pains every day. I still had some of the anti-psychotic pills; so, I took one and the pain went away completely; but, if I didn’t take the pill, then the pain came back. I believe that I don’t need to be on psychiatric drugs; but that anti-psychotic really provided relief from the physical pain.”
April: “Maybe, if you told your primary care doctor about this pain, he could prescribe something for it.”
August: “Maybe . . .”
April: “Why don’t you try that?”
August: “I haven’t seen a primary care doctor in many years – even though I have medical insurance; haven’t seen a dentist, either in many years – no contact with healthcare at all.”
April: “Why, August?”
August: “I don’t trust them.”
April: “Why, August?”
August: “I don’t want to recall the things that happened at the mental health center over the years – and not only at the mental health center. The whole world seems to have seriously deteriorated during the past several years. And my aging body of 73 years is also deteriorating. Everything is becoming like a very old car that just doesn’t work well anymore.”
April: “There must be something you can do.”
August: “Oh . . . there is.”
April: “What is it?”
August: “You may not find the answer very pleasing.”
April: “Why not?”
August: “It’s a hard answer.”
April: “Tell me this hard answer, August.”
August: “Patient endurance.”
April: “And where did you find this answer, August?”
August: “In the words of Jesus that are written in The New Testament.”
April: “What words?”
August: “But the one who endures to the end will be saved.”
April: “What was Jesus speaking about when he said those words?”
August: “Persecution.”
April: “I’d like to read the passage where Jesus said those words.”
August: “Matthew 10:22. The first book of The New Testament. Today is the 22nd day of December.”

August: “Yes.”
April: “Where is it in The New Testament?”
August: “Revelation 3:10.”
April: “What did Jesus say there?”
August: “Because you have kept my word about patient endurance, I will keep you from the hour of trial that is coming on the whole world, to try those who dwell on the earth.”
And he also said: “Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.” -Matthew 7: 13, 14. ESV Study Bible.

It seems and sounds like a special name. At first, it was Elextra; and then, later on, it acquired an L at the end – like the name America acquiring an L at the end of Her name – in remembrance of and in honor of the Lord Jesus, the first and the last, the beginning and the end, the Alpha and the Omega. And now both of those names have 8 letters: Elextral and AmericaL. Maybe AmericaL is ElextraL’s last name. ElextraL AmericaL. Maybe, when America becomes “the nation whose God is the LORD,” she will become ElextraL, the Lady of the Lord, the Extra Special Lady of the Lord – because the Spirit of the LORD will be in the heart of our nation – in the heart of America — making Her His Very Own Nation and Country and Lady. August: “Like this, April: El Extral or El Extra – I can’t exactly decide which sounds better. I just don’t know.”
April: “You don’t know, August ?”
