Imagining Asking Michelle for a Date
It would be my first date in this Century
My last date was in 1997—almost 28 years ago – when I was 44 years old –
In
In September of that year.
We went to Walmart and bought a ring.
Then we walked across Diamond Hill Road and went to McDonald’s.
Then we took the bus back to Elm Street.
Michelle kindly explained to me at the check-out that she was only there to do her job;
So, I understand that when I’m at the cash register it’s not for socializing.
This evening, I had an idea.
What if I purchased for Michelle a Stop & Shop gift card ?
And then, we walked the aisles together just like I did with my older sister many years ago;
When we went grocery shopping for mom at the A & P on Cass Avenue after school ?
It would be a safe place for us to begin doing something together—shopping.
I believe I would find it easy to just walk with you and either push the carriage or carry the basket. And after we check-out at the cash register, Michelle, if that seems to be enough for our first date, then okay; or, if you would like to go out for a coffee or tea at the coffee shop at the front of the shopping plaza, we could also do that—but only if you want to. I won’t even mention it.
Or maybe it wouldn’t be necessary to buy a gift card.
We could simply shop and not worry about adding up the cost.
And then just go to the cashier and pay with my card.
And, Michelle, if you decide that’s the end of our date—
That would be enough excitement for this old boy on his first date in almost 28 years.
And if you would like to think of us as being like brother and sister going shopping for mom, that would be okay, too. My heart would just like to be good to you, Michelle. My heart is just sweet on you.
And I noticed something sweet about the name Stop & Shop.
Both of those words have 4 letters – and 3 of them are the same.
The only difference between them is that
One has a T
And
The other has an H.
I’m wondering what the T and the H might stand for.
Many words begin with TH—
Such as Thee and Thou.
And some words end with T and H —
Such as With and Hath and Wreath . . .
Some love songs came to mind as I was nearing the end of this writing. I can hardly make up my mind about including them here or not. I didn’t write them. They are beautiful love songs that other people wrote and sang.
Tomorrow – April 30th — will be the 120th day of this year.
There is a 12 in the number 120.
Remembering a beautiful song that has the word Twelfth in it.

Michelle, I like the color of your dark hair. It isn’t blonde; but, for me at 73,
I appreciate the coolness of your hair color, Michelle.
In 1974 I had a romance that I remember as
The Summer of ’74.
And her hair was blonde.
But that romance that began in May ended in August.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful
To begin with you a new romance
Again in the Month of May
And maybe Michelle
God will look more kindly on us this time
And bless our romantic love so that it lasts Forever and Ever.
