A Child After Miss Robinson’s Own Heart
Miss Robinson: “Mark, why are you after my heart ?”
Mark: “I need you in Christ.”
Miss Robinson: “What do you need me for ?”
Mark: “Love.”
Miss Robinson: “Whose love ?”
Mark: “God’s love.”
Miss Robinson: “Are you saying that you love me for God’s sake – and for Christ’s sake ?”
Mark: “Yes.”
Miss Robinson: “Not for your own sake ?”
Mark: “I love you, Miss Robinson, for God’s sake; and Christ’s sake — and lastly for my sake.”
Miss Robinson: “So you’re almost selfless about me ? No wonder you’re not married; and have no relationship with a woman. You want to be in a loving relationship with a woman – but not for yourself ?”
Mark: “Yes.”
Miss Robinson: “How could that work ?”
Mark: “By the grace of God through faith in his Son, the Lord Jesus – and with the help of the Helper, his Holy Spirit. It is a kind of love that puts self aside and allows Christ to be first in marriage.”
Miss Robinson: “Well, I believe in myself first of all.”
Mark: “As long as you remain that way, any relationship you’re in will be self-centered. You must have your own way in everything that matters to you.”
Miss Robinson: “That’s how I see it. You understand me, Mark. And by the way; could it be that True God requires you to be in love with a woman who believes in herself – so that you must exercise this selflessness in your relationship with her that True God requires of you – by deferring to her who believes in herself – by submitting to her – rather than prevailing over her – as head of the wife in marriage?”
Mark: “In the book of Genesis, Adam went along with his wife and disobeyed God’s word not to eat the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. And consequently, Adam was banished from the garden of Eden where their life together had been blessed. Therefore, it would be wrong to defer to an unbelieving wife and submissively go along with her selfishness and her unbelief and ignorance of the gospel of Jesus Christ. She is on the road to destruction – just as the world that lies in wickedness is in fatal error and ungodliness. We must be born again and listen to Jesus Christ the Lord and Savior. But, please don’t misunderstand me; in love with you, Miss Robinson, I truly, truly do not want to be dominant. I would immediately feel guilty and horrible about being selfish. It’s only that I could not let my wife lead me astray and lead our marriage into something that it ought not to be – an ungodly and sinful marriage. Just as a carpenter building a house should not allow that house to be built on a bad foundation using unworthy materials, so also a husband must net let their marriage fall into corruption.”

I don’t want to hurt Miss Robinson. I hope that, maybe, her real name is not “Miss Robinson” [maybe it’s only a pseudonym] – so that no one will know who I’m writing about. I never met her in person; so I don’t really know her at all. I don’t know any of the facts about her – only what she has written to me by email and on Facebook a few years ago. I don’t write to her on Facebook anymore. I’m not using Facebook, lately. Facebook is acting very oddly, lately. So, I’m trying to let go of Facebook – to avoid the unnecessary things they require of me to log in to my account each and every time; and the very many unnecessary emails they send me to alert me that I have logged-in to my account; and ask me to send them a code to log-in – in addition to my name and password; and to ask me if it was me who just signed-in; and to click on every picture that contains crosswalks or busses or motorcycles or staircases. God bless Miss Robinson and Facebook with True God’s grace and faith in his Son, the Messiah; and with His love and mercy and forgiveness and eternal life and salvation; and joy and peace forever and ever. Miss Robinson: Miss Robinson reaches with her left hand and begins touching her man. “Mark, may I kiss your mouth, please?”
Mark: “Yes, Miss Robinson.” Miss Robinson leans onto Mark and presses her mouth on Mark’s mouth. Mark feels Miss Robinson’s open mouth on his open mouth; and her bosom pressing softly on his chest; and Miss Robinson’s hand touching him. Mark imagines Miss Robinson breathing her breath into him – filling him with her own woman’s breath.
Miss Robinson: “Do you enjoy how I’m touching you and kissing you, Mark ?”
Mark: “Yes, love.”
Miss Robinson: “Is that all you’re capable of, Mark?” Miss Robinson sighs.
Mark: “What do you want me to do, Miss Robinson?”
Miss Robinson: “I want a kind man, Mark.”
Mark: “What kind of a man is kind, Miss Robinson? How does he show his kindness to you ?”
Miss Robinson: “Oh . . . forget what I said about you not being a kind man, okay? You’re a spiritual kind of lover, Mark – maybe a supernatural kind of lover boy. You’ve been born again by the grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ, the Son of God — and the Helper, his Holy Spirit – the Spirit of truth and understanding. I’m only a natural woman, so far. I want a natural-born-only kind of lover-husband. That’s not what you are!”
Mark: “If you become a born-again Christian, Miss Robinson . . . then we would be the same kind – True God’s kind – the kind who have His Spirit in our hearts.
“You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him.” –Romans 8: 9. ESV.

Miss Robinson sighs again. She turns away; and lays down; she covers herself with their blanket; and rests her head on their One Pillow – an extra-large pillow. She closes her eyes. Mark wonders what’s going on in Miss Robinson’s kind of mind. He understands that Miss Robinson doesn’t want to talk; or else she is unable to talk about what she’s thinking and feeling and wanting with her husband – the kind of love she desires. He closes his eyes; just as Miss Robinson has closed her eyes. They lay there – side-by-side – waiting for sleep. Mark appreciates that Miss Robinson is laying beside him. He loves her beautifulness. He loves being in her presence – the Presence of Her Beautifulness. Her beautiful presence turns him on with gentle peacefulness – and excitement. Yes, he also feels desire for her. He silently loves her. He hopes Miss Robinson will stay with him. He would be so lonely without her being with him. He falls asleep in love with Miss Robinson. Miss Robinson also falls asleep.
God bless Miss Robinson. May no harm come to her in any way – in our Lord Jesus’ Name. Amen.

I can’t remember what they sold; but they had a soda fountain. I remember that.
Maybe they sold rpm records; maybe that’s where my mom bought the 45 rpm vinyl music records that she gave me when she got home from shopping on Main Street when I was just a little boy. And I remember being so small that sometimes I’d lay the huge paper shopping bag on the floor; and crawl into it – and then tear it to pieces to break out of it – like the Lion of the Tribe of Judah.
