Thinking of Doreen Picard
May True God bless all her family with peace and good comfort concerning Doreen Picard.
I understand that her family is sensitive about her being written about.
“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” -Jesus, the Son of God [Matthew 5: 14-16 ESV Study Bible].
In the United States of America, Lady Liberty is another Lady who needs to be courageously rescued from brutal attack. All the branches of our National Government are under attack by “the god of this world.” [see 2 Corinthians 4 ESV if you don’t know who “the god of this world” is]. He is deceiving the people in elected office throughout this Country. Their hearts and their devotion are being hijacked and perverted to serve Money rather than True God and His Justice and Righteousness and Freedom for US – The United States of America. The rulers of the people are led astray; and they are leading the people astray. They are trying to save the very wealthy from paying taxes; and trying to avoid a nation-wide economic disaster caused by themselves in their foolish devotion to Money – rather than being devoted to True God – and helping the poor, the needy, the elderly, the disabled, and the aliens among US — the immigrants who have nothing.
I understand only a few facts about Doreen from things I’ve read.
I have not met her, yet – in person; but I hope to . . .
I’ve learned the number 22 is special to her life.
If I understand correctly, Doreen was born on the 22nd; and she departed on the 22nd; and she would have turned 22 in the year she departed – if she had lived until her birthday – in 1982. So, I think of 22 as Doreen’s number. Earth Day is also on the 22nd day — of a different month. My mother wasn’t born on the 22nd, but on the 11th of February. Two times eleven is 22. I was 22 during “The Summer of ’74.” It was a memorable and romantic summer in my life. It was like the novel and maybe the movie: “The Summer of ’42.”

I think my number is 8; because of many things in my life that have the number 8; but not my birthday nor my birth year. I believe I was 30 years old when Doreen departed at 21 going on 22. In exactly 8 months from the day she departed, she would have turned 22. And 23 days after her birthday was my birthday – on the 14th of November.
Feeling Like Crying
And it isn’t a bad feeling.
It’s a sweet feeling.
I grew up on Sweet Avenue.
Walked to Stop & Shop in South Bellingham beginning just afternoon today.

Walked there by Rathbun Street this time — rather than by Social Street.
When I got into the parking lot of the supermarket from Cheney Street, Picard Auto Service was visible in the far distance – straight up from Auclair Avenue – which was also far away. Seeing that white building always reminds me of Doreen Picard. Wonder if she worked there at her dad’s business – or at least visited the location sometimes? My dad worked at Arcand’s Garage on Cass Avenue in Woonsocket, Rhode Island when he was a teenager. Mr. Arcand’s first name is the same name as my dad’s father – my grandfather – Donat Richer. My grandfather departed this life about 1 year and 9 months before I was born – close to Valentine’s Day in 1950; so, I haven’t met him, yet; just as I haven’t met Doreen Picard, yet, in person. My dad also worked at a machine shop in Worcester, Massachusetts. I worked at a machine shop in Northbridge, Massachusetts. Doreen Picard worked at a machine shop in Wrentham, Massachusetts. I spoke in my heart to Doreen as I was walking. And I was picturing her — as she looked in a photograph in The Woonsocket Call.
At first, I was just wondering in my heart if I could talk to her. And she spoke to me before I said a word.
Doreen: “You can talk to me, Mark.” She said in my heart. That makes me feel like crying now; but it’s ok with me to feel like crying. It’s a sweet heartfelt feeling. Maybe true love is like that. It touches the heart. The human heart is very sensitive. It naturally cries when touched.
Mark: I took off my hat and replied — just as I silently pray to our heavenly Father and Lord Jesus in my room with the door closed – just as Jesus said to pray. “Hi Doreen.” Doreen knew what I wanted to say even before I said it – just as Jesus said that our heavenly Father knows what we need even before we ask Him. “You can tell me you love me, Mark.”
Mark: “I love you, Doreen.”
Doreen: “I love you, too, Mark.”
Mark: “I can see your dad’s business – the white building — as I’m walking to the supermarket. It’s in the distance — looking straight up Auclair Avenue. I wonder if you worked there, Doreen – just as I worked at my dad’s TV shop on Elm Street when I was in my early teenage years – my first regular job. And The House of Brides was directly across the street from my dad’s Radio & TV Shop.” That’s all I can remember now about the conversation with Doreen.
Mark: Now something else is coming to mind. “I want to meet you, Doreen – when it’s my turn to depart this body. I want to meet you face to face. I hope our eyes meet. I like your eyes in the picture I saw of you. You looked directly at the camera lens. You are a lady of good courage – like Joan of Arc. I want to see your eyes looking directly into mine. I want to feel them penetrating me – entering into my very heart and soul and mind, Doreen. And I believe you will be even more beautiful than you were in your early 20s. And I want to hear the sound of your voice, too. That will be very heartfelt to me, Doreen — to hear the sound of your living voice – and the way you speak. I’m very interested to know the sound of your voice. Jesus told some people that “God is not the God of the dead but of the living; for all are alive to Him” – including Abraham, Isaac and Jacob; so, that’s how I know you’re living even now, Doreen. And I believe you are a very heartfelt person. That is why I want to meet you – and have a deeply heartfelt experience with you. And because you are so very beautiful, I am sure you will emotionally impress me. “God made man in His own image; male and female He created them” – that’s why you are so beautiful, Doreen – because you are created in the image and likeness of God; and He gave you His beautifulness “in the beauty of holiness.” And in the regeneration of all things, we who believe in Him are going to be gloriously regenerated bodily – just like the gloriously resurrected body of our Lord Jesus Christ. “We shall be like him; for we shall see Him as He is.”

President John F. Kennedy also departed on the 22nd – in the month of November. It was 8 days after my birthday on November 14th. I was 12 years old; and in the 6th grade at St. Charles School on Daniels Street in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. And I live in John F. Kennedy Manor now – on the 8th floor; moved here in 2008 – on January 23rd. I was born at 8:23 AM. It was a Wednesday. I wonder what Doreen’s middle name is. I wonder if it is Simone. I believe that is her mother’s first name. Doreen Simone Picard. That name sounds lovely to me.
A confession. I believe I need to fall in love. And it seems to me that my heart is only willing — and, maybe, only able to fall in love with a beautiful young woman. Today, Tuesday, May 20th, 2025, I was at Stop & Shop in Bellingham, Massachusetts. And at the checkout the lady who was bagging groceries suddenly was called to do something else; so, I began bagging my own 4 items; and then suddenly a young and pretty lady appeared; and she began bagging with me; and our hands touched for one moment as I handed the package of 12 envelopes of powdered milk to her. And I felt something beautiful then. Her youthfulness and beauty and feminine presence just felt so good to me. It was just a beautiful feeling.

Maybe someday there will be a memorial shrine to remember Doreen Picard; perhaps it should be located right at the border between Bellingham and Woonsocket – between Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Maybe a White Stone Memorial. The present location of Picard Auto Service might become an ideal location. It is a prominent place at the intersection of Pulaski Boulevard and Social Street and Bellingham Street. It is also near where Blackstone and Woonsocket and Bellingham meet – suggesting A Place of Convergence – A Place for Coming Together.
