Words Are Spiritual

“It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life. But there are some of you who do not believe.” (For Jesus knew from the beginning who those were who did not believe, and who it was who would betray him.) And he said, ‘This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by the Father.’” -John 6: 63-65. ESV Study Bible.

In the word HERO is a He and a Her.

There is a story that mentions “Unwrapper of Hearts.”

And in the pronouncing of the word Unwrapper can be heard two words:

Unwrap Her

Only True God by His Holy Spirit Can Unwrap Our Hearts.

Maybe the unwrapping of our hearts is akin to the Scriptures concerning having our hearts circumcised. And maybe, only then, are we born again.

“For no one is a Jew who is merely one outwardly, nor is circumcision outward and physical. But a Jew is one inwardly, and circumcision is a matter of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the letter. His praise is not from man but from God.” -Romans 2: 28, 29. ESV Study Bible.

“But far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. For neither circumcision counts for anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creation. And as for all who walk by this rule, peace and mercy be upon them, and upon the Israel of God.” -Galatians 6: 14-16. ESV Study Bible.

“Since we have such a hope, we are very bold, not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face so that the Israelites might not gaze at the outcome of what was being brought to an end. But their minds were hardened. For to this day, when they read the old covenant, that same veil remains unlifted, because only through Christ is it taken away. Yes, to this day whenever Moses is read a veil lies over their hearts. But when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. And maybe it requires love to be unwrapped.

And maybe it requires two for this “unwrapping in love” to occur.

And it is a very delicate operation – this work of unwrapping the heart.

It is a spiritual work that no human heart surgeon can perform.

No scalpel in a human can do it.

Faith is required.

Faith in True God.

And those who believe in themselves –who believe in self rather than True God – are not exercising Faith in True God. So, this unwrapping of their heart will not happen. They are not trusting in His Holy Spirit.

Without faith it is impossible to please God.

“And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.” -Hebrews 11: 6. ESV Study Bible.

God is One

And each one of us is another.

Each one of us must put all our faith in that One

Who Alone May Circumcise Our hearts —

If we will believe His Words about being born again – and about everything He tells us.

Let us not be all “wrapped up” in our selves;

But rather let us become unwrapped by trusting in and believing in and on the only One Who’s Holy Spirit can save us from our self –

By His Holy Spirit circumcising each one of our hearts.

Another thought about our human hearts.

This thought has to do with our hearts being “touched.”

When I listen to love songs and beautiful hymns my heart is “touched” – sweetly touched.

It feels like crying.

It’s a sweet feeling -– this experience of being touched to tears by a love song or a beautiful hymn. I was just listening to the hymn: Rock of Ages. And I had this experience of my heart being “touched”.

It got me wondering how to characterize this feeling in words that might help people relate to this experience in an attractive way. I began imagining it might be likened to a river flowing in me – in my heart – a river of love – perhaps a river of God’s Love. And then I began recalling some Scriptures about this matter of something flowing inside our hearts – something Spiritual. Maybe that’s why some songs are called: spirituals – because something spiritual begins happening in our hearts when we listen in faith to such hymns and love songs.

Jesus said something about this.

“On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, ‘If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’ Now this he said about the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were to receive, for as yet the Spirit had not yet been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.” -John 7: 37-39. ESV Study Bible.

Last night saw something out the window of my apartment – but not with the eyes in my head . . .

With the eyes of understanding, instead.

It was pitch black out there.

The electric power in the neighborhood was off.

And I wondered if the City had done this on purpose –

To quiet down the neighborhood.

In pitch darkness no fireworks could be performed.

Only a few cars were going down the street with their headlights on.

Night life in the neighborhood would be so much more peaceful if there was no electricity.

And if there were no more cars it would be even more peaceful.

And if there were no more guns we would all be safer.

And if there was no more politics on earth; and no more unequal distribution of worldly wealth; there would be no more wars and no more laws legalizing corruption.
