48 years ago today, The Great Blizzard of ’78 was happening over Woonsocket, Rhode Island and the Northeastern region of The United States of America. We got 55 inches of snow right here in Woonsocket. I was 26 years old. Now it’s 2026 and I’m 74 years old. That blizzard put me and thousands of others out of work for a week while the area was being cleared of a great inundation of snow. I wrote to an old girlfriend at that time. She wrote back that she had become a born-again Christian. I began reading my Bible with a newfound interest and understanding that Andree’s letters and quotations of holy Scripture concerning the gospel of Jesus Christ had given me. In early April of that same year, I became a born-again Christian. And the following month, on May 14th, I got baptized at Blackstone Valley Baptist Church.

There’s a Mystery on Sweet Avenue in Woonsocket, Rhode Island.
Lately, when I walk on that street where I grew up between 1951 and 1970, I see something all wrapped up in black. It’s as big as a house – and shaped just like a Quonset hut. It’s in an open space facing Emerson Street and the house where Par-X Bakery used to be – close by the house where the Blanchette family lived many years ago. That open space is in front of 4 or 5 garages. That “open space” has a fence in front of it now. We used to play baseball in that open space between the Garcia’s house and the Blanchette’s house – facing Emerson Street.
I can only wonder what is under wraps of that big black plastic shape. Maybe it is symbolic of something else we don’t see, yet — the new heavens and new earth that are prophesied to appear. [Revelation 21:1, 2 ESV Study Bible].
