I was just listening to music videos of Mary Black
And thinking of us
Being at Burger King
And haven’t seen you since that day
February 22nd, 2026
And I was nearly crying listening to Mary Black singing soulful songs of sadness.
And I was thinking
I just want to walk with you again Ashley
To
Burger King again.
And sit at that same table again with you.
Having the time of my life with you there, Ashley
The time of my life with you Ashley wasn’t like a children’s birthday party.
It was much more peaceful and gentle and lovely than all that.
It was just a precious and dear time of being there with you
Ashley, I wish we had many more memories of being together
Wish we had memories of being in high school together
And memories of being in elementary school together, Ashley
Wish we had memories of growing up together on Sweet Avenue.
Wish we had memories of dating together
Going to the movies
Going to Cass Park together as 7-year-old children.
Walking to the library together
Holding hands together as we walk.
This 42-year difference in our ages has me wondering if I also love you as a father loves his young daughter – or a grandfather loves his granddaughter.
I don’t feel like your father or grandfather, though.
I feel like your boyfriend.
And with you being — maybe two inches taller than me — I’d like to feel about you as a little boy feels about his good mother – whom he just loves going shopping with – just him and his mom.
