Dear Ashley
I wonder how you are today . . .
Wonder if I’ll hear from you again
I saw your cousin a day or two ago
I can’t even remember if it was yesterday or the day before
I’d like to be helpful to you, Ashley
I’d like to be supportive
I gave him my phone number
I walked to the supermarket this morning.
I felt tired
And was surprised when I got home
The trip only took 55 minutes.
I bought 6 bananas, a medium jar of peanut butter and –
I can’t remember the 3rd thing . . .
Oh –
Two more things:
A can of Chickarina soup
And
A can of Lentil soup.
For the first time in about a month was able to walk on the sidewalks rather than in the street –
Because much of the snow has melted away.
I hope we can go to Burger King again
And sit at the same table
And enjoy an hour together again.
I’m going to try harder to remember what you tell me, Ashley.
What you tell me is very precious to me
It’s almost like you are a living and very lovely novel to me
And I want to savor every fact about you and the story of your life.
And your life is real –
It is non-fiction.
“Ashley’s Real-Life Story”
And the best part about you, Ashley
Is your Presence.
Your lovely, spiritual Presence.
“The Shekinah Glory of the Lady of the Lord”
Lady Ashley
Let the peace of God rest upon your heart, Ashley
The Lord loves you very very very much, dear.
