The Lady in My Dream
It was the evening after Thanksgiving Day, a Friday; and I was so sleepy I had to take a nap or I’d be dragging myself around this apartment for several more hours before bed time. The nap only lasted about 25 minutes — which I appreciate – because if I slept for an hour or two then I wouldn’t be sleepy again until about 3:AM.
Well, I had a dream; and it went like this as best as I can remember it as I was waking up.
In the dream I was in my apartment reaching for the vacuum cleaner plug when it suddenly just went about 100 miles an hour out of the outlet and retracted all by itself like. So, I turned around and there was this beautiful young lady in the bedroom who had apparently pushed a button on the vacuum cleaner so that it just went into automatic and violent and powerful retraction mode. I can’t recall the exact words of our dialogue; but it went something like this.
Me: “You really didn’t have to do that, you know . . .”
She: “Why? What’s the matter?” she feigned.
Me: “It really shocked me! I wasn’t expecting that. You saw me reaching for it”
She: “Oh . . . it was nothing,” she feigned again.
Me: “Couldn’t you be more considerate?”
She: “OK. I apologize. I’ll try to be kinder next time,” she replied with a kind look. And our eyes met. And I really appreciated the look of sincerity in her words and eyes so much I felt like falling in love with her right there. But I understood that we just weren’t really there, yet. So, I had to stay calm and just be like we were only sharing an apartment and there was nothing else between us.
So, as I was reliving this short dream as I lay there waking up some songs also came to mind.

My very first job was working for my dad at his TV sales and service shop on Elm Street in Woonsocket, Rhode Island in the mid to late 1960s. Richer’s Radio & TV. Directly across the street was another shop: The House of Brides; and sometimes, through the windows of dad’s shop and through the windows of The House of Brides, I saw the mannequins being dressed up. That’s how I first saw “the figure of a woman” –even though they weren’t real, of course – and they had no personality and no heart and soul . . . still there is something about The Figure of a Woman. Glory be to God for giving woman such a glorious figure and such a pretty face and a voice that is feminine; and a grace that is so . . . well . . . gracious that — as I’m getting on in years — I’m beginning to wonder if the Shekinah Glory of God is right there in woman – in her presence — shining like a light emanating from her God-given heart and spirit and soul that He made out of Adam’s rib — so many years ago. Maybe that’s why a man needs a woman – God took a part out of man to make a woman for man; and so man has a sense of loss that only a woman can replace; so, unless she is by his side, he has a sense of missing something in his life without her.
