The 328th day of this year
“A Mouse in Her House”
There once was a man who fell in love with a lady
And the Lord let him know
The only way to her heart was for him to become
As meek as a mouse in her house.
Meeker than Mickey Mouse
Meeker than Mighty Mouse
As meek as a caterpillar
So quiet
So lowly
So gentle and slow
So meek in his spirit that even her four cats would let him go
in her house.
Here’s a question I have imagined asking my future wife:
“Dear, when you come home from work, do you want me to say anything at all: or would you prefer that I keep quiet until you speak to me? The reason I ask is because I imagine when you come home you may be feeling stressed and, perhaps a bit irritable — and so, maybe, you would like to enjoy thinking as you’re coming home that the apartment is all yours and so, you don’t have to deal with any social niceties such as greetings and questions and hugs and kisses — or anything else but just coming home and doing whatever you’d like to do without anyone at all to have to deal with. Maybe, I could be as quiet as a mouse for you — that would suit you just fine. And Leilah, maybe that’s how I could become your 8th pet — your quiet-as-a-mouse love buddy. Just seriously imagining how to be just right for you, dear. By the way, Leilah, did you ever imagine having a mouse as a pet? And would your four cats be willing and able to welcome a mouse into the house and treat him as a friend?
This is the story of maybe mark and lady leilah.
M&M and L&L
Actually – in the alphabet – L comes before M
And, in life and in love, ladies before gentlemen
So . . .
L&L and M&M
Lady Leilah and Maybe Mark
L is the twelfth letter of the alphabet
M is the thirteenth letter
They go together – side-by-side
Maybe even hand-in-hand
Maybe like lyrics and music that go-together
and make a love song
12 + 13 = 25
The 25th of December is Christmas Day.

“The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork. Day to day pours out speech, and night to night reveals knowledge. There is no speech, nor are there words, whose voice is not heard. Their voice goes out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them he has set a tent for the sun, which comes out like a bridegroom leaving his chamber, and, like a strong man, runs its course with joy. Its rising is from the end of the heavens, and its circuit to the end of them, and there is nothing hidden from its heat.” -Psalm 19:1-6 ESV Study Bible.

Then I was imagining more about being “a mouse in her house”
We’re married. And it’s early morning.
Leilah is in the bathroom taking a shower. She leaves the door open, though – so the humidity doesn’t make the walls wet. Mark is in the living room sipping his tea. He has a view of the open-door bathroom from where he’s sitting. He can just barely see his beautiful wife through the clear-but-foggy shower curtain about 20 feet away. He remembers how she likes her cup of coffee in the morning – after her shower; so, he gets up and makes a cup of coffee just as Leilah likes it. And he times it so its ready and hot for her and waiting for her on the side table next to her favorite chair. When she steps out of the shower and walks into the living room, she’s only wearing a towel around her head. She looks so beautiful with her “figure of a woman” body and very pretty face that Mark can only resort to being as quiet as a mouse in her house. He says nothing. He prays silently to the Lord Jesus – remembering His name is all that is needed. “O Jesus . . . O Jesus . . . O Jesus . . . my Lord and my God. My Savior. My Good Shepherd Lord Jesus.”
Leilah sits down in her chair – about 8 feet away from Mark. She notices her cup of coffee on the table and casually tosses her towel over the back of her chair. She picks up the cup and takes her first sip. It’s still hot – just as she likes it. She glances at her husband. “Thank you, Mark,” she says. Mark doesn’t say a word. He takes another sip of his tea. Leilah is feeling well this morning. She’s in the mood for a little conversation. “Well, Mark . . . did you enjoy seeing your wife walk out of the shower and into the room with only a towel on her head, my love?”
Mark: “Yes, dear.”
Leilah: “And did you enjoy seeing her through the clear-but-foggy shower curtain as she bathed like Bathsheba on the rooftop in David’s view?”
Mark: “Yes, dear.”
Leilah: “And now what?”
Mark: “I don’t know.”
Leilah: “I don’t know, either.”
Mark: “Maybe after we finish our coffee and tea we may go into the bedroom and stand beside the bed and pray?”
Leilah: “Yes, dear. That sounds like a good way to start the day – asking our Lord for the help of his Holy Spirit to lead us today in all we do, in Jesus’ name.”
Mark: “Amen.”
