We studied that novel at Woonsocket High School in our junior year. Mr. Stanley Haines, our English teacher that year – 1968-1969 – stood in front of his desk each day – and read the entire novel to us – one day at a time. Years later, I bought that novel at Walden Books at The Lincoln Mall in Lincoln, Rhode Island – and read it all myself. Decades have now gone by since reading it. I can’t remember it all now – but, I understand this: There are a great many cities in the world – but there is only one city of God. If we make the mistake of loving the cities of the world – rather than the city of God – we’re going to be so sorry when the worldly cities pass away – but, if we believe in True God – and His gospel – and look forward to the second coming of Christ – and the rapture – and the regeneration of all things – in heaven and on earth – we will eventually find ourselves living in those new heavens and new earth – by the grace of God and the faith of Jesus Christ and the help of His Holy Spirit – if we truly believe in Him – in True God – by believing in the gospel of God – and being born again – by the grace of God and the faith of Jesus Christ – and with the help of His Holy Spirit – the Helper – the Spirit of truth and understanding.
