August’s Dream Romance

My Dad’s 101st birthday
August Deepening Dawn was getting on in years. He was really “feeling his age.” He had never been married, even though he found women attractive. And he had no children. He often looked out the windows of his apartment on the 8th floor – 8 was his number. A couple of days ago he noticed a young woman and her young boy in a baby carriage across the street. She looked very pretty. The two of them went into the large building across the street. A couple of hours later he saw them again. They were departing that building. August wondered if she had a husband – or was alone taking care of the boy who appeared to be about 3 years old. From a Distance, She looked to be about 25 years old. August was almost 75. In his heart, he wanted to be helpful to that young woman and her boy – if he could. He prayed about it – asking the Lord that, if it be His will, he would like to help her and her son – if she was alone – and if she needed help. He didn’t know.
The next day, he saw her and the boy again. August didn’t have 20/20 vision; and he no longer wore his glasses. She was wearing different clothes. He couldn’t be absolutely sure she was the same one. She was with a young boy again. She was holding his hand as they walked. When they had to cross the street, she put her arm around him and picked him up and carried him across the street. Then she put him down and held his hand again – as they walked together into the same building as yesterday.
August wondered why they were going into that building. There was a dentist office in there. August wondered if a 3-year-old boy was likely to be in need of a dentist. He didn’t know.
August turned on his computer looking for a song on YouTube – just to listen. He found one. He cried as he listened and watched the video . . .

He remembered another music video and played that one, too.

And in the evening, he began thinking . . . wondering how he might meet or at least greet the beautiful young mother and son he had seen through his windows. He imagined being at the ATM of the bank that was also in the same building where he saw her and her son enter. In his imagining . . . as he turned from the indoor ATM she and her son came walking through from inside the bank. Their eyes met. He realized right away that she was the one he had seen from his 8th-floor apartment windows. And she had read the blog post he wrote about her and her son. She found an old picture of him on Facebook; and from that old picture she wondered if he was that writer.
Young Lady: “Are you, Mark of marksimaginings ? she asked him.”
Mark: “Yes.”
Young Lady: “Do you recognize me as the one you saw from your window ?”
Mark: “Yes.”
Young Lady: “I would like for us to get acquainted – if you’d would also like to.”
Mark: “I would like to.”
Young Lady: “Just so you know, my son’s dad left me. He said I was too serious and literary for him.”
Mark: “Literary ?”
Young Lady: “Yes, I love to read stories. And I have a romantic imagination. He wasn’t like me. He said about me that if I wasn’t reading a book I was writing one. He felt that I wasn’t giving him enough of my attention. I have my young son to take care of, too.”
Mark: “Oh . . .”
Young Lady: “Have you ever been married, Mark ?”
Mark: “No.”
Young Lady: “Do you have any children ?”
Mark: “No.”
Young Lady: “Do you like being in conversation with me, Mark ?”
Mark: “Yes.”
Young Lady: “Why ? . . . if I may ask.”
Mark: “I like the sound of your voice and your thoughtfulness.”
Young Lady: “My thoughtfulness ?”
Mark: “I can see that you have sincerity of heart – that meaning is important to you – that you have depth of soul.”
Young Lady: “Anything else ?”
Mark: “Your appearance is beautiful; and so, your presence is lovely to me. And your conversation is interesting – like reading a love story.”
Young Lady: “You feel like you’re reading a love story when we are in conversation ? Would you like to be in a real-life love story, Mark – with me ?”
Mark: “Yes.”
Young Lady: “May I kiss you, Mark ?”
Mark: “Yes.”

Young Lady: “Amen.”
And then they kissed. And Young Lady put her arms around Mark and kissed him again.
