“You Are My Sunshine”

Just Had a Sweet Thought

While remembering the Facebook WHS 1970 Reunion Anniversary Post by Rick

Alan asked something about reunions in general.

And I answered that I never went to a reunion – being too “quiet” for such gatherings.

And, then, a few minutes later

I was washing a few dishes and was thinking about that FB conversation.

And was imagining trying to explain my quietness.

And I thought of Clark Kent

Remember how quiet he was?

And, I imagined saying to Alan:

Well, I know  I’m no Clark Kent – but maybe “Mark Kent.”

Maybe I’ve been this way all my life, like an acorn that is still waiting for the one who will be his sunshine and rain — and he will finally sprout.

Then, I wondered:

Who is my sunshine and rain?

Who is going to make this acorn finally break open and sprout?

Imagine . . .

Being an acorn for 68 years?

In “A Tale of Two Cities”

Which we studied in Mr. Stanley Haines English class in junior year at WHS

There was a chapter or scene about Dr. Manette being “recalled to life” —

After 18 years in prison.

And a grave digger, whose name I can’t recall, was thinking to himself about that in the story,

About being recalled to life.

Well, that don’t seem like so much compared to being a seed waitin’ to sprout for 68 years.

What a magic moment that will be!

In my junior year at WHS, a student named Eileen, who had been in my class at St. Charles School for 5 years [4th through 8th grades], appeared in September in my homeroom. Her desk was on the opposite side of the room. She had not been a student of WJHS when I was there in 9th grade. And she had not been at WHS in 10th grade either. And then, a few weeks later, I noticed she wasn’t there in homeroom anymore. Didn’t see her again at WHS.
