This Guy
There’s this guy, he’s so funny it isn’t even funny.
I guess it’s weird.
I mean, he’s weird – a little weird.
Maybe someone should write about him.
Maybe it would be for him like putting clothes out on the line to dry up in the sunshine and fresh Spring air.
He may be one for the history books, or something . . . the medical books, perhaps.
What should we call him?
What should his name be?
Don’t know yet.
Maybe he will tell us his name as he unfolds.
Unfolding . . . that reminds me of something kind of spiritual.
It’s called The Rose
Or maybe it’s more like unwrapping
Maybe that’s it!
Maybe he’s a gift that hasn’t been unwrapped yet.
Maybe he must be given to someone who will then unwrap him
And find out what’s inside the wrapping . . .
What’s under the covers.
Let’s just wait and see, OK?
He seems to have a lot of minds – or, maybe, layers of mind.
Maybe his layers need to be peeled away
Maybe the thing with him is that his mind is on the verge of vanishing like a wisp of fog dispersing in the early morning sunshine.
James wrote by the Holy Spirit:
“Why you don’t even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.” -James 4:14. NIV Study Bible.
He can see himself from many viewpoints —
Like a photographer seeing a situation from many perspectives and trying to decide how to photograph the scene. It’s difficult to make up your mind when your mind is misty.
The Misty Mind
The Mysterious Mind
God Moves in A Mysterious Way with Lyrics
“When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.” 1 Corinthians 13:11-13. KJV.
I’d like to give an example of what I mean – but it’s so difficult and complicated that I dread even trying to do it.
It’s 12:30 AM now. Maybe I should go to bed and sleep.
Maybe tomorrow – if I can get a good night of rest – I’ll feel willing and able to write a complicated situation-example that reveals how complicated his mind is.
Before going to bed, though, I want to mention a possible name for him that is coming to mind as I write about him: Maybe Mark might be a good name for him.
Now a middle name for him is coming to mind: Knot.
Maybe Knot Mark – or,
Maybe Not Mark
Maybe he’s destined to become something entirely new.
See, I told you he’s funny – or weird!
He’s knotted up inside mentally.
Or, maybe, he only imagines he’s knotted up.
Maybe that isn’t even the matter
Maybe he’s mistaken
Marky Mistaken
Maybe the story about him will be about how he gets unraveled – how the knot gets untied.
If there is a knot . . . maybe not.
Maybe it will be a love story:
How Sonora Melted Marco
Or,
How Phoebe Helped a Hardy boy Solve the Mystery of Himself –
Using her Nancy Drew skills to draw him out of himself –
With love and kindness and loving kindness
As Lisette mentioned to me, once upon a time
By waking him up to understand he isn’t even quite real yet –
He’s only a character in a story
A fictional character in a make-believe love story
Written by someone’s imagination.
The name Sonora means pleasant sounding
Maybe Knot Mark likes the sound of music
“Do-Re-Mi” – THE SOUND OF MUSIC (1965)
Sonora is a member of a musical family
Maybe the pleasant sound of her name and the loveliness of her appearance and the gentleness of her spirit is melting Mark’s mind.
How Loving Sonora Undid Mark’s Mind
He wonders if the word Loving is to be an adjective or a verb.
He really doesn’t know . . .
“If anyone imagines that he knows something, he does not yet know as he ought to know. But if anyone loves God, he is known by God.” -1 Corinthians 8:2, 3. ESV Study Bible.
Burt Bacharach – This Guy’s in Love with You
This guy’s in love with you – Herb Alpert (Lyrics on screen)
Maybe that’s why Mark’s mind must disappear
So that someone else’s mind can appear.
And why his heart must “melt like April snow”
ANDY WILLIAMS – THE TWELFTH OF NEVER
And why he loves to listen to love songs:
Chuck Girard Band “A Love Song” 1979
He likes this song. It’s deep and sonorous.
It feels spiritual and touches the soul – even though he hasn’t lived out West and doesn’t know the cowboy life firsthand.
Well, he did take a cross-country bus trip to California and Oregon in 1984.
And he did watch westerns and shows about cowboys when he was a very young city boy.
Shenandoah – The Brothers Fours
Kenny Rogers – A Love Song w/ Lyrics
“So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by being obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” -Philippians 2:1-11. ESV Study Bible.
