Gretchen Enters a New Life

Gretchen Confides in Santa . . . Well, maybe eventually she will confide . . .
Who is this Santa, anyway?
The Santa Gretchen was meeting that dark and cold and lonely December night was also the pastor of a church in Woonsocket, Rhode Island in the United States of America – which was destined by God Almighty to become the United States of AmericaL – A Miracle! – by His grace through faith in his Son – the True Light of the world – True God. That pastor’s name was Daniel Boone Jackson – a man after God’s own heart – as David the king of Israel was also described in the Holy Scriptures of True God. Daniel Boone Jackson was the pastor of The Church of the Living God.

Daniel Boone Jackson may have been the great, great grandson of America’s Daniel Boone. If he was, he chose a different path in life; he was a spiritual trailblazer leading a wagon train of souls to higher ground – higher even than the Rocky Mountains and further away from the things of this world than California is to New York City. He was more like Moses was to Israel. And the Messiah of the Jews and the Gentiles was — and is — his Rock and his Lord and his True God.

On that cold December night Daniel Boone Jackson was praying as he held little Gretchen in his arms. He was asking the Lord God in Jesus’ Name how he might be of help to this crying little girl. And the Lord God instantly answered Daniel’s prayer by putting in Daniel’s heart the love of God the Father to be a loving father to little Gretchen — with the Holy Spirit of the Lord leading Daniel each step and every moment of The Way. This Daniel had already been of service to the Lord in a similar situation the previous year when another child in need came to Daniel as he was being Santa Clause for young children.

Daniel said to Gretchen, “I have a little girl at home. She told me that for Christmas this year she’s praying for a sister – just like Martha and Mary were sisters during Jesus’ time on Earth.”
Gretchen: “Who is Jesus? And who are Martha and Mary?”
Daniel: “Well, Jesus is our Lord and Savior; and Martha and Mary are friends of His – as is Lazareth their brother.”
Gretchen: “Would you take me to meet your daughter? I would like to have a sister, too.”
Daniel: “Yes, I will, Gretchen. This way.”
And Gretchen followed Daniel. His home was over the bridge spanning the Blackstone River and just a little way beyond.

When they got home, Daniel’s adopted daughter, Carol, was waiting for her dad at the door. She had a cup of hot chocolate waiting for him. She was amazed by the sight of Gretchen beside her dad; but she didn’t say a word. Her mind and heart immediately went into a state of wonder. She wondered who this girl about her own age and size was; and why she was with her dad; and she remembered her prayer to God to have a sister. Then she looked up at her dad with wondering eyes. Daniel said to his daughter, “Carol, tonight I met Gretchen at the steps of Santa Claus’ sleigh — just as we met last year at Christmastime. She may be the answer to your prayer for a sister.” Carol looked into Gretchen’s eyes and Gretchen looked into Carol’s eyes.

Carol opened her arms and Gretchen opened hers and they each took a step toward each other; and they held each other for a sweet and tender moment of silence. Then Carol said to Gretchen: “I just made some hot chocolate for us; would you like to have a cup, Gretchen?” Gretchen just nodded her head; So, Carol immediately brought the cup of hot chocolate to Gretchen, saying: “We can sit in the living room, Carol, if you would like?” Gretchen nodded again; so, they both walked into the living room and sat down together on the couch. There was a Christmas tree before them; and Christmas music was playing softly. After finishing her cup of hot chocolate, Gretchen put the cup down on the coffee table before her; and then she leaned back and just fell fast asleep. Carol went to the closet and brought a blanket for Gretchen and covered her sister. And she lifted Gretchen’s legs onto the couch to help her sleep more comfortably. Then she went to her dad to confide in him.

Mark: “You’re very observant, Erin. It’s encouraging to me to see that you’re really getting into the story and caring about Gretchen and her life.”
Erin: “And another thing, Mark: What exactly happened between Gretchen and her mother? Was it only the abusive and dominating personality of her mother that made Gretchen seethe in her heart with anger toward her mother – or was there more to what was bothering Gretchen that made her think and speak such vile and hateful words to her mother?”
Mark: “Well, to tell the awful truth about that – since you asked, Erin: Here is an example of how Gretchen was treated at home. After her mom made 8-year-old Gretchen kneel and begin scrubbing the toilet, her mother said, “And you keep on scrubbing it as fast as you can and until I tell you to stop! And when I get back, if you aren’t scrubbing, you’ll have to do it for 10 more minutes!” And then her mother kicked Gretchen’s behind so hard that Gretchen’s head banged hard against the lifted toilet seat cover. And that made Gretchen stop scrubbing. She was so stunned by the pain and the violence. And her mother became enraged that Gretchen had stopped scrubbing that she kicked Gretchen again and again and again – venting her madness and rage and hatred at Gretchen. And Gretchen’s head was being banged again and again and again against the toilet seat cover. And blood was dripping from Gretchen’s head into the water of the toilet. And Gretchen wanted to get up and confront her mother; but she was feeling so dizzy and weak that she could not stand. She just kept scrubbing as hard as she could; and finally, her mother slammed the door shut.”
