Sharing Some Memories
of School Days
Hi, Eileen – it’s 11:42 PM of March 6th, 2022, Sunday late night
Was just thinking of our school days at St. Charles School
At the corner of Daniels Street and Earle Street where you and I were in the same grade and classroom for 5 special years—4th grade through 8th grades – from September of 1961 ‘till June 1966. Wish you had been there for the first three years, too – with Sister Mary Carlene and Sister Mary Theodora and Sister Mary Florita in 3rd grade – the year we all went to the school library on the fourth floor for the first time. And I found The Hardy Boys series of books; and borrowed and read “The Secret Panel” – number 25 in the series. And read about Frank and Joe meeting a mysterious Mr. Mead on The Shore Road when they were out riding in their convertible near Barmet Bay in Bayport.
Do you remember that in 4th grade – in addition to Sister Mary Danette – Mrs. Crowley was also our temporary teacher – and there may have been another temporary teacher?
I was just recalling that Sister Mary Elaine was our Literature teacher in 7th grade. Never knew why Sister Miriam-Ann didn’t teach us that subject. And, in 6th grade, our Principal, Sister Mary Joiakim taught our English class every day. Sister Mary Bertha was our regular teacher. I wonder if Sister Mary Joiakim just loved teaching so much that she needed to keep teaching at least once a school day in addition to being our Principal?
Another thing I remember at St. Charles was memorizing the poem “The Children’s Our.”
Was it by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow?
I still recall some of it.
“Between the dark and the daylight
When the night is beginning to lower
Comes a pause in the day’s occupations
That is known as the children’s hour.
I hear in the chamber above me the patter of little feet
And the sound of a door that is open
And voices soft and sweet”
And something about grave Alice and laughing Allegra –
And Edith with golden hair.
When I read about Edith with her golden hair I think of you, Eileen.
And when I read about Frank Hardy’s girlfriend Callie Shaw who had blonde hair – I think of you because of your blonde hair and Dutch Boy haircut.
Getting back to “The Children’s Hour” . . .
And something about the narrator and his mustache –
“such an old mustache as I am”
And the round tower of his heart where he would keep his little girls forever.
And something about them being around him –
“They seem to be everywhere!”
Wishing you a happy and healthy Spring, Eileen

Good morning, Eileen
We just passed through one day and into another, you and me.
Why are you being silent, Eileen?
Is it the spirit of strictness – like this:
Mark, I told you to push me out of your mind and forget about me!
Eileen, you are not my Principal. And you are not my boss nor my supervisor.
Maybe you are just hiding from me because of guilt. You and your brothers speeding up the boat twice while I was learning water skiing – so that the handle of the rope was pulled out of my hands twice and I fell into the water twice. And about a week later, scolding me as we lay on the beach blanket at George’s Beach – the last time we were there – the last time you and I ever went to the beach together. And being as cool as a granite statue laying on your back in Montreal where I kissed you three time with no response from you at all. Just yesterday, a possible explanation for your coolness occurred to me. It was related to a serious conversation we had outside the Great Island cottage – in the back yard near the water. You were honestly confiding something to me about feeling guilty about our romance; and that you didn’t receive communion when we went to church that day because the priest doing the confessions was someone you knew; and you felt uncomfortable confessing about us to him. And maybe, my reply to you in that conversation was not helpful, either. I said to you something close to: “I didn’t know that was bothering you.” [about us]. And you replied, “It ‘tis. It is.” And then I replied, “Well, we won’t do that anymore.”
Maybe, Eileen, my reply was unintentionally hurtful to you?
Eileen, I was so content just to be going out with you; that I enjoyed your presence so much that I was happy to be with you. I didn’t think too much when I was with you. I was just sort or mindlessly in love with you and just going along with you; in the cloud of the aura of your presence. I didn’t exactly know what I was saying.
We do seem to have some serious differences, though – about the gospel of Christ versus CCD.
I believe the RCC persecuted and martyred about 50 million true Christians during the dark ages; that it is not a Christian church; that it may be “a synagogue of Satan” – “masquerading as
an angel of light” and teaching lies in hypocrisy; and under a curse for teaching “another gospel.”
And I am not judging anyone. I’m not the judge.
I’m only confiding a view — as a believer in the gospel of Christ; and a believer on the Lord Jesus Christ my Savior. True God is the Judge.
Revelation 2:9; 3:9. ESV Study Bible
“For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, masquerading as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. It is not surprising, then, if his servants masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve.” -2 Corinthians 11:13-15. NIV Study Bible.
1 Timothy 4 NIV
“I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel – not that there is another one, but there are some who trouble you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him be accursed.” -Galatians 1:6-9. ESV Study Bible.

“And he said to them, ‘Is a lamp brought in to be put under a basket, or under a bed, and not on a stand? For nothing is hidden except to be made manifest; nor is anything secret except to come to light.’” -Mark 4:21, 22. ESV Study Bible.
“So have no fear of them, for nothing is covered that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known. What I tell you in the dark, say in the light, and what you hear whispered, proclaim on the housetops. And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell. Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows. So everyone who acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven, but whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven.” -Matthew 10:26-33. ESV Study Bible.
