The 261st day of this year 2022.
‘It’s All Story,’ she said.
April: “Who said that?”
April: “Who’s Eileen?”
August: “My classmate and friend.”
April: “What did she mean by that?”
August: “I don’t know.”
April: “Well, just forget about it.”
August: “What if it means that all of life is story?”
April: “It’s only her opinion; you don’t have to believe it.”
August: “Amen. I don’t believe it. If “it’s all story” means that all of life is only as meaningful as a story in a book – like a novel — a work of fiction – then it’s all meaningless. It has no lasting value. I don’t want to believe that.”
April: “You don’t have to believe it. It isn’t gospel truth. It isn’t Holy Scripture. It’s only a human thought. She may not even believe it, herself. She may have changed her mind – or, she may not have meant it the way you’re thinking she meant it.”
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” -Isaiah 55:8, 9. ESV Study Bible.
“Understand, O dullest of the people!
Fools, when will you be wise?
He who planted the ear, does he not hear?
He who formed the eye, does he not see?
He who disciplines the nations, does he not rebuke?
He who teaches man knowledge – the LORD –
Knows the thoughts of man,
That they are but a breath.” -Psalm 94:8-11. ESV Study Bible.
August: “I like the way you think, April. You sound reasonable. And your reasonableness is reassuring. I feel some peacefulness in confiding with you.”
April: “It’s my pleasure to confide with you, August. And it’s very encouraging to me to hear that our conversation is helpful. It adds meaning to our lives to be helpful to each other.”
August: “Amen, April. A song is coming to mind now as we’re talking about this matter.”
April: “What song is coming to mind, August?”
August: “Love is a Many Splendid Thing.”
Love Is a Many Splendored Thing

April: “Why August? Why did that song come to your mind?”
August: “Well . . . as we were just talking, I began feeling some splendid feeling from listening to your words and sentiments, April.”
April: “Why, August?”
August: “You are so understanding, April. Your understanding touches my heart, I guess; and that’s why I feel splendid feelings listening to you.”
April: “Is there anything else about that song and movie that is special to you, August?”
August: “Yes. I just noticed that the movie came out in 1951 – that’s the year I was born. And I asked my mother once how my name became Mark. She said that there was a character in a radio program at that time whose name was Mark. I don’t know what radio program it was. As I watched the movie trailer on YouTube, I had the notion that my mom and dad saw this movie – and I got named Mark because of the character in the movie.”
April: “But your name isn’t Mark. Your name is August . . . isn’t it?”
August: “Well, in this story I’m writing my name is August; but this is only a story. My name is really Mark.”
