Remembering St. Charles School

October 23, 2026

The First Game of the World Series is happening as this is being written in the evening . . .

8 Daniels Street

Woonsocket, Rhode Island

Class of 1958 to 1966

And also some other students from other grades are remembered

Listening now to piano music in the background

The music touches my heart

And reminded me of those school days now gone by

With feelings . . . sweet feelings

This is all from memory; don’t have any yearbooks –

Nor were any online yearbooks accessed.

Sister Mary Carlene – our dear and excellent First-Grade Teacher

She taught us the very basics of learning

I never attended kindergarten –

So, first-grade with Sister Mary Carlene, was my very first encounter with a teacher of formal education –

And it was a very good first encounter

Thank you so much, Sister Mary Carlene

I will always remember you with heart-felt gratitude and love

Wouldn’t it be gloriously supernatural for us to all be allowed to be transformed for a day – to our Day at St. Charles School – and our bodies – for one school day – became our 7-year-old bodies once again. And we all spent a day in First-Grade again with Sister Mary Carlene,  our young Teacher ?

And at Lunchtime we all would go once again to the cafeteria for lunch; and then outside into the schoolyard for a half-hour.

And in the afternoon – in this supernatural Return — we also would go – as a class — to the school library on the third floor – where I found The Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew stories among others. The library was on the 3rd floor – where the school auditorium and stage were located. In the movie, Melody, the school scenes look very similar to St. Charles School.
