“Dear Phoebe”

Dear Phoebe

May I Help You, Dear Lady?

For it is written in the True God’s Holy Book thusly, concerning Phoebe:

“I commend to you our sister Phoebe, who is a servant of the church which is at Cenchrea:

That you receive her in the Lord in a manner worthy of the saints,

And that you help her in whatever matter she may have need of you;

For she herself has also been a helper of many,

And of myself as well.”

-Romans 16:1, 2. New American Standard Bible.

I don’t know if you have seen it, but, I have written about you on my blog:

I’m single

Never been married

No children

I believe in the Lord Jesus, the Son of Man, the Son of God

The gospel of Jesus Christ

The Kingdom of God

I’ve been to many churches

I’m not currently “going” to church

I go to the Head of the church in prayer at home.

If I may be of any help to you in the Lord

Please let me know how.

I understand that I am much older than you

If I’m too old to be your boyfriend

I would still be grateful to be your friend in Jesus,

Your helping friend.

About the light-hearted card of a cat holding a glass of beer in his right hand that is included with this letter:

I actually only drink tea and water and juice and milk.

I write; and listen to music.

And take a walk and go shopping for food

And read and think and imagine.

And keep my apartment clean and my dishes washed.

March 10, 2020 5:15 AM.

Yesterday I was thinking of your name again,

Wondering what else I might learn about the meaning of the name Phoebe.

I went online in search of your name

And learned that it means “bright, shining”

Immediately I saw the word “right” in the word “bright”

This morning, thoughts of loving conversation between us were happening to me.

And now, I’m recalling Scriptures about the word “shining.”

“And we have something more sure, the prophetic word, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts, knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation. For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.” -2 Peter 1:19, 21. ESV Study Bible.

About the Saint Patrick Day Card,

It is a light-hearted card; and so I have some concern that it might give the impression that I’m not serious.

On the other hand, I don’t want to seem so serious as to trouble you.

So, may I say and pray that the loving and merciful kindness of God our Saviour rest upon you, dear lady; let His Peace rest upon you always.

Be of good cheer, Phoebe.

Be of good courage.

Do not worry about anything.

I’m wondering if I may give you a gift card as a way of helping you.

I don’t know where you like to shop for food and household items.

If you permit me to give this gift to you

Let me know, please, and I’ll get a gift card for you, from the store of your choice.

The Saint Patrick Day Card

Has a cat on the cover

He’s wearing a green top hat with a gold 4-leaf clover on it.

And he has a green bow tie under his chin. And a big glass of beer in his right hand.

And I was just imagining him saying, in the famous words of Humphrey Bogart’s character in “Casablanca” to Ingrid Bergman’s character:

“Here’s looking at you, kid.”

I won’t call you, kid.

I’ll call you, lady:

Lady Phoebe

And that word, Lady, has me remembering two beautiful love songs featuring the word Lady:

Jennifer Rush – The Power of Love

Lady Kenny Rogers Lyrics

Now, another love song is coming to mind

A Serenade to You, Phoebe

Falling in love with Phoebe

In the Lord Jesus’ Name

The words and melody “I am in love with you” have been with me today.

I couldn’t recall the rest of the song or its title or writer.

Finally, a little while ago, the name of the singer came to mind and from his name the song was found.

LONGER – Dan Fogelberg

I’m imagining you asking

“How could you be in love with me – and for that long?”

I don’t know how.

I only know the song is coming to mind and I want to put it in this letter to

“And why do you want to put this song in your letter?”

“And why are you writing to me?”

Maybe this is why:

Edison Lighthouse – Love Grows(Where My Rosemary Goes) Lyrics

“My name isn’t Rosemary.”

Shakespeare wrote that a rose by any other name is still a rose.”

Mark: “Phoebe, I found an article about the short stories/musical/film by James A. Michener “Tales of the South Pacific.”

Phoebe: “What does that have to do with me? It was your neighbor, Helen, who mentioned that to you.”

Mark: “I want to correspond with you and tell you everything that is going on with me.”

Phoebe: “Why?”

Mark: “I want to be in love with you.”

Phoebe: Why?”

Mark: “It seems that being in love is where I’m headed.”

Phoebe: “Why?”

Mark: “It seems I got a reservoir of love in my heart that is just bursting to become a river: The River Love.”

Phoebe: “Any other reason(s)?”

Mark: “Maybe . . .”

Phoebe: “Maybe what, Mark?”

Mark: “I believe you like to talk, Phoebe.”

Phoebe: “And what if I do like to talk, Mark?”

Mark: “I’d like to listen to the sound of your voice, Phoebe.”

Phoebe: “Why, Mark?”

Mark: “To be . . .  to be . . .”

Phoebe: “To be what, Mark?”

Mark: “To be in love with Phoebe.”

Phoebe: “Why me, Mark?”

Mark: “Your appearance.”

Phoebe: “What about my appearance, Mark?”

Mark: “Your appearance is just right.”

Phoebe: “How is my appearance just right?”

Mark: “Your face.”

Phoebe: “What do you mean?”

Mark: “Did you ever see a face that looked just right to you? It was so just right to you that just seeing that face was pleasing to you. It satisfied your heart’s desire. It comforted you. You just felt satisfied to see it. Your heart’s search for beauty had found what it was looking for. And that face wasn’t just a face. It was a person, a living person who could look at you and listen to you and respond to you and talk to you. A beautiful love song is coming to mind, now.”

Phoebe: “What song is coming to mind, Mark?”

Mark: “A song by Roberta Flack: The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face.”

Phoebe: “Is that how you fell in love with me, Mark? The first time you saw my face?”

Mark: “It’s been happening gradually, by successive impressions of seeing you and being present with you at the cash register.”

Phoebe: “What exactly do you mean?”

Mark: “Well, after seeing you and being in your presence, it gets me thinking of you.”

Phoebe: “What kind of thoughts?”

Mark: “Thoughts of your face and wondering why I’m so affected by your face.”

Phoebe: “Why are you affected by my face, Mark?”

Mark: “Your face is so pretty, to me.”

Phoebe: “And that is important to you?”

Mark: “Yes.”

Phoebe: “Why, Mark?”

Mark: “Your face and your presence touch my heart.”

Phoebe: “What does my face and presence do to your heart, Mark?”

Mark: “They open it and draw it to you; so that you can come inside and be there inside me forever, your beauty and your presence in me.”

Phoebe: “And what would you do with me inside of you, Mark?”

Mark: “I would listen to you speaking to my heart and enjoy being in your presence.”

Phoebe: “Have you already had intimations of me speaking to your heart, Mark?”

Mark: “Yes, I have. It happened yesterday and again today.”

Phoebe: “And what was it like? Can you describe this experience to me?”

Mark: “It was love talk.”

Phoebe: “And did you enjoy our love talk, Mark?”

Mark: “Yes, Phoebe, I did enjoy it very much.”

Phoebe: “So, maybe we are already in love, you and me.”

Mark: “Yes, Phoebe, maybe we are already in love . . .”

Phoebe: “So, now, what do we do?”

Mark: “I don’t know. Maybe wait to see what Love will lead us to.”

Love Lifted Me with Lyrics by Alan Jackson

Phoebe: “Mark, if you love God, why are you in love with me?”

Mark: “Maybe God, who is Love, is the One Who is bringing us together in Him for His purposes.”

Phoebe: “And what might His purposes be?”

Mark: “We learn to love God, Whom we have not yet seen, by loving one another whom we do see.” [1 John 4:7-21. ESV Study Bible.].

Phoebe: “Well, we’ll just have to see about all this.”

Mark: “Amen.”
